REG & TECH has been providing automation at abc westland for more than twenty years. They also provide CCTV surveillance on and around the business park, which contributes to a safe environment.

“From a practical point of view, I’ve been associated with the fruit and vegetable sector for many years, so it felt only logical for me to set up my automation company here,” says Richard Guttenberg of REG & TECH. “For more than twenty years, I’ve been closely monitoring progress in automation here on this site. When I started back in 2000, I provided proper order registration for the purpose of ISO certification. Orders could be simply entered on a PDA with WiFi, instead of on a piece of scrap paper. Later on, I developed a system that allows the real-time monitoring of packaging and repackaging fresh products. Every day is like a challenge to come up with new and smart solutions!”

Richard recognises that internationalisation too entails great challenges: “Recently, I developed software that ensures that labels of products are automatically translated into specialist foreign characters and, in the case of the Arabic market for instance, printed in reverse direction.” Yet Richard just as easily focuses on network connections, emergency power supplies, security against hackers and backups. “Particularly at a business park with many fresh products, it is important that ICT systems are reliable, fast and available 24/7. The higher the level of automation, the faster and therefore the fresher products can be sent on their way.”

CCTV is also a service that REG & TECH provides on the site, as well as at several businesses locally. “With the security cameras installed by us throughout the site, I at the same time contribute to a safe working environment for all entrepreneurs here. This makes for a great workplace, so I have no reason to leave!”
